Bergmann Audio

Why it is renowned

Stereophile reviewed Bergmann's Galder turntable and Odin tonearm, in Michael Fremer's Analog Corner.¹ The Absolute Sound, Hi-Fi News, the Robb Report, Fidelity, LP and Stereo Sound have also reviewed its turntables and tonearms.² Dealers and distributors sell them in about thirty countries, from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong to the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.³

The story

Johnnie Bergmann, a mechanical engineer, came across air-bearing turntables in the 1980s and set out to remove the drawbacks that had made them hard to live with. He founded Bergmann Audio in 2008; the first model was the Sindre turntable.⁴ Every part is designed by him and made in the Bergmann workshop in Denmark, and the products are assembled there.⁴

The turntables and tonearms run on air bearings, the tonearms tracking in a straight line, and the models carry names from Norse mythology.⁵ The Galder takes up to four tonearms, and its 11.8 kg aluminium platter floats on a thin cushion of air.⁶
