Why it is renowned

The Darkz Z3W is the zirconium model of Darkz, the resonance-control discs Ansuz makes for components, cables and speakers. Audiophilia, reviewing the range, called zirconium the top material of the family, hard to source and hard to work, and the one designer Michael Børresen prefers.1 Every Audio Group Denmark component ships with feet ready for Darkz.1

HiFi Advice wrote in 2023 that Darkz had a profound effect, enough that it used several sets in its own two systems, and that the dearer models sound better still.2

The story

Ansuz makes the Darkz.3 Each foot stacks three discs; the upper two each rest on three balls, which lead vibration into small contact points where it turns into heat.3 The letter in each Darkz name gives the disc material: C for aluminium, S for stainless steel, T for titanium and Z for zirconium.12

In the Z3W the discs are zirconium with a zirconium and hafnium finish, the shaft is titanium and the balls are tungsten.3 The metal parts are cooled to about −196 °C in a cryogenic treatment.3 A foot measures 44.5 mm across and 23.8 mm high.3
