Villa Provence

Why it is renowned

The MICHELIN Guide selects Villa Provence among its hotels in Aarhus.¹ It describes a townhouse turned into a French country house by its owners, with antiques found in the south of France, four-poster beds and clawfoot tubs in many rooms, and an organic breakfast.²

The story

Villa Provence sits behind a light façade and a narrow gateway on Fredens Torv in the middle of Aarhus.³ Each of its 39 rooms is furnished on its own in the style of Provence, with chandeliers, coloured walls and furniture brought home from the south of France.⁴ The lounge keeps original French posters, flowered sofas and tiled tables, and an honesty bar where guests mix their own drinks.⁴³ The cobbled courtyard, with lime trees, fountains and hydrangeas, was laid out with the flower artist Tage Andersen.³ Since 2020 the hotel has been run by Bühlmann Hotels, a family hotel group founded in 2007 in Aalborg by Anemette and Danni Bühlmann, the third generation of the family.⁵⁴ Between 60 and 90 per cent of what the hotel buys is organic, which earned it the Danish organic label in silver.⁴
