Why it is renowned

Henne Kirkeby Kro is known abroad for its restaurant: under the British-born chef Paul Cunningham it won a Michelin star in 2016 and a second in 2017.¹² In 2012 it was named Scandinavian restaurant of the year.¹

The story

The inn has fed travellers beside the village church of Henne Kirkeby since 1790, between Henne Stationsby and Henne Strand.² The bird painter Johannes Larsen stayed there to paint at the nearby lake, Filsø.²¹ The Beck Thomsen family ran it for three generations and made its name for French cooking.² Flemming Skouboe bought it in 2007 and, with his sons Simon and Martin, rebuilt it behind the old walls under a new thatched roof, furnished it with Danish furniture classics and modern art, and added Staldgården in 2010 and the Hunting Lodge in 2013, bringing the rooms to twelve.² The inn keeps its own animals and a large kitchen garden with an orchard and beehives, and opens for part of the year.¹
