Why it is renowned

Lurpak Unsalted is the Danish foil-wrapped butter with no salt added. Arla presents it to chefs as a blank canvas, to which a dish's seasoning is added as needed.12 It is one of Lurpak's standard lines.3

The story

Lurpak's unsalted butter is made like the salted block, from cream taken from fresh milk and churned into butter, with no salt added.1 The cream is ripened before churning and lactic cultures are added, which give Lurpak its fresh, slightly acidic taste.2 The butter has a minimum fat content of 82 per cent and comes in 200 g, 250 g and 400 g blocks.1
