Why it is renowned
The ASICS DS-Trainer was Wood Wood's 15th-anniversary collaboration with ASICS Tiger, which recreated the 1990s GEL-DS Trainer OG runner in a metallic silver colourway with red and blue anodised eyelets and lace tips and Wood Wood branding on the tongue and insole.1 It was first shown at Wood Wood's autumn/winter 2017 show during Milan Fashion Week.1
The story
Wood Wood built the shoe on ASICS Tiger's GEL-DS Trainer OG, a runner from the mid-1990s, keeping its GEL midsole, DuoSole outsole and neoprene bootie under a synthetic leather upper.1 It was released on 6 May 2017, sold only at the ASICS Tiger store in Osaka and at Wood Wood's shops in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Frederiksberg and Berlin and on woodwood.com.2
