Why it is renowned
Skall Studio is a Danish womenswear label working in natural and organic fibres across shirts, dresses, denim, knitwear and tailoring.1 It was founded in 2014 by the sisters Julie and Marie Skall, who also lead the design.23 The sisters keep the production cycle of their garments as short and as close to home as possible in Denmark; their knitwear is spun at the family-run Hjelholt mill on the island of Funen.3 It shows at Copenhagen Fashion Week, and Vogue Scandinavia has interviewed the sisters and reviewed their collections.43
The story
The surname Skall translates to shell, and the family name traces back to a grandfather who collected seashells on the beaches of northern Denmark.2 Julie and Marie Skall founded the label in 2014 after studying at fashion school and working for international brands, where they grew uneasy with overconsumption.23 The label works in natural, durable materials and designs for long wear.2 For spring/summer 2026, the sisters showed a collection titled La Dans Act II in the garden of Designmuseum Danmark and introduced shoes made from a leather-like material derived from orange and cactus byproducts.4
