Why it is renowned
MUNTHE is known for women's ready-to-wear rooted in art, with prints made by Naja Munthe or by artists the house works with.1 Vogue carries its Copenhagen collections from spring 2020 to fall 2022 on its runway pages.2 Whitewall reviewed its spring/summer 2026 show, held in Copenhagen's Botanical Garden, with prints taken from plants in Munthe's own garden.3
The story
Naja Munthe studied at Design School Kolding and founded the house in Copenhagen in 1994 as an artistic, craft-focused alternative to the fashion industry of the time.1 She remains its creative director, and the headquarters is at Holmen in central Copenhagen.1 Since 2021 its ART MONDAY initiative has promoted female artists.1 In 2025 the company pledged 10 percent of its pre-tax profits to initiatives supporting women and girls.4 For spring/summer 2026 Munthe printed leaves and blossoms from her garden onto the fabrics with plant dyes and eco-printing.3
