Why it is renowned

Monastery is the aquavit Nordisk Brænderi presents under its title of Aquavit Distillery of the Year.1 The New York International Spirits Competition gave the distillery that title for Denmark in 2016.2

The story

The recipe draws on the aquavits once made in Danish monasteries.1 It is distilled at Nordisk Brænderi with caraway, mint, lemon thyme and honey, and bottled organic at 41.5% in 50 cl bottles.1 It has also been sold as five litres in a tapped cask of Quercus robur oak, made by a cooper in Kyiv.3
