Why it is renowned
Tuborg is one of Denmark's two best-known beer brands and is brewed and sold well beyond Denmark; in 2008 it became the official beer of the Reading and Leeds festivals in Britain, and the following year of the Download festival.1 Since 1970 it has been part of the Carlsberg Group, whose brands reach markets worldwide.12
The story
Philip Heyman founded Tuborg in 1873 on a harbour at Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, together with C. F. Tietgen and others.1 Its flagship Tuborg Pilsner was first brewed in 1880.1 The brewery merged into De Forenede Bryggerier in 1894 and became part of the Carlsberg Group in 1970.1
