Why it is renowned
The Easter tablecloth is the spring counterpart to the Christmas tablecloth, which its designer also drew and which the house counts among the signature designs of its damask collection.1 Its pattern turns the old Easter symbols of the chick and the egg into a simple graphic design.2 It has been relaunched in a soft yellow and also comes in light green, as a rectangular cloth, with matching linen napkins.1
The story
Bodil Bødtker-Næss (1942–1988) trained in textiles at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen and was one of the textile artists around the Georg Jensen Damask looms in the 1970s.2 Work on the Easter tablecloth began in 1978, and she completed the motif in 1979, four years after her Christmas tablecloth.12
The cloth is damask woven from double-twisted combed cotton.1 Rectangular cloths are 140 or 165 cm wide and run up to 350 cm long.1
