Why it is renowned
MATTER is known for its patterns: they are written in code rather than drawn, so the weave never repeats and no two carpets are quite alike.12 The American design site Design Milk covered the collection in August 2025, quoting Marius Myking, director of Snøhetta's product design, and the project lead Francesca Giulia Poli.2 Snøhetta lists it among its own projects.1
The story
Snøhetta's product designers wrote a set of randomised algorithms after the irregular order of natural systems, and the patterns they produce go to Ege's flatweave looms.13 The carpets are woven from recycled yarns, post-consumer and industrial, in a flat structure made for heavily used rooms.1 The collection comes in two palettes of 18 colours each: Mute, with beige and grey undertones, and Saturated, with blue and green ones.13 Both are made as carpet tiles and planks and as wall-to-wall carpet, in colours from Aubergine and Terracotta to Forest green and Chocolate.3 It is a continued collaboration between Snøhetta and Ege Carpets.1
