Why it is renowned
The British design magazine OnOffice named the Peanut among the Bent Karlby lamps in the showroom of LYFA's return at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.1 LYFA counts it among Karlby's best-known designs.2
The story
The Peanut came out in 1946, when fluorescent tubes were spreading.3 Karlby disliked their hard, cold light and offered this lamp as an alternative: an organic shape, brass details and his peepholes.3 The shade is mouth-blown three-layer opal glass; its thickness gives an even, diffused light.3 The glass in the brass base can be removed for more direct light downward.3
It is made in three sizes, to hang alone or in clusters.3
