Why it is renowned
Model 1 is the first shade in Le Klint's history, and it is still made the same way, on principles patented in 1938.1 Its cross pleats go back to the shades the architect P.V. Jensen-Klint folded around 1900.1
The story
Jensen-Klint folded the first shade for a stoneware oil lamp, with cross pleats that turned into a collar at right angles to the pleats.1 Tage Klint added a grip collar that holds the shade on its frame.1 The shade has roots in 1901 and has been in the collection since 1943.2 It is folded by hand in Odense, in paper or in a white lampshade foil.2 It is made in several sizes, named by the side length below the collar, and fits table, floor, wall and pendant lamps with a special fitting.2
