Why it is renowned

The sofa belongs to the work that brought Finn Juhl to the United States: after Edgar Kaufmann Jr. of the Museum of Modern Art wrote about him in Interiors in 1949, Hollis Baker asked him to design a modern collection.1 House of Finn Juhl's reissue won the Wallpaper Design Award for best reissue in the sofa category in 2010.2

The story

Finn Juhl designed the sofa in 1951, and it took its name from the Michigan furniture maker Hollis Baker.1 Its back is split into two upholstered parts.1 House of Finn Juhl put it back into production in 2009 as model FJ 5100, 195 cm wide, with a frame of oak or walnut, hand-sewn upholstery in textile or leather and a sprung seat cushion.1
