Why it is renowned
The 2213 is a sofa by Børge Mogensen, Fredericia's founding designer, whose work is shown in leading design museums around the world.12 Fredericia names it among the best-known sofas of mid-century Danish design and says it stands in embassies, company headquarters, private homes, galleries and museums around the world.1
It is fully upholstered, with piping along every seam, separate seat, back and arm cushions, and solid wood legs.1
The story
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) designed the first 2213 for his own home in 1962, setting out to make the ultimate upholstered sofa, and Fredericia introduced it the same year.12 It is still made in Fredericia's workshop.1
The legs are built into the wooden inner frame, and the seat rests on jute and rubber webbing. The cover on the frame is fixed; the cushions have removable covers and are filled either with a foam core wrapped in down or with foam and down in separate chambers. The three-seater measures 221 cm in length, and it comes in leather or fabric on oak or walnut.1
