Why it is renowned

Dinesen makes wide floor planks in Jels and delivers them all over the world.¹ Its Douglas fir floors have been laid in buildings abroad, among them a farmhouse in Westchester County, New York, by the Brooklyn firm Worrell Yeung, which chose the Douglas planks for the whole house.² The company works solid and engineered planks in Douglas fir, oak, ash and pine, cut from old trees in family-owned German and French forests.³

The story

Hans Peter Dinesen founded the company in 1898 as Jels Savværk, a sawmill and shop in the town of Jels in South Jutland.¹ It later took the family name and has passed through five generations, its planks still made in Jels.¹ Dinesen selects trees between 80 and 200 years old and works them into solid and engineered planks for floors, panelling and ceilings, in Douglas fir, oak, ash and pine.³
