Why it is renowned
The first store under the BoConcept name opened in Paris in 1993, and since 2006 all its furniture has been sold through franchised stores.1 The company now counts more than 300 stores in over 65 countries.2 Its designers include Morten Georgsen, Karim Rashid and Henrik Pedersen, and the Milan studio of Claudio Bellini drew its Paraggi sofa.13
The story
The cabinetmakers Jens Ærthøj and Tage Mølholm started the business in the summer of 1952; two years later they moved with four employees into a factory of their own.2 An extendable teak dining table and a dining chair by the architect Arne Wahl were among the first successes.2 A second factory opened in Herning in 1962, and in 1976 the company took the name Denka as it turned to export.1 It was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 1984 and has been owned by the investor 3i since 2016.1 Production, quality control and logistics are in Ølgod; product development sits in Aarhus and Copenhagen.2
