Why it is renowned
The American magazine Stereophile reviewed the Legend 40.2 Silverback DS in October 2025, finding its bass tight and extended and its spatial presentation clear and coherent.1 System Audio gives its bass as reaching down to 20 Hz.2
The story
Ole Witthøft, System Audio's chief executive and designer, built the Legend 40.2 Silverback DS as an active speaker in which every driver has its own amplifier channel.12 Two woofers and a midrange driver of the same outward size share the bass, crossing at 200 Hz, with the lower woofer slightly delayed; the midrange hands over to a 1-inch tweeter behind a DXT acoustic lens at 2.8 kHz.1 The four amplifiers together give 300 watts, with DSP control and a sealed enclosure.21
The cabinet, 95.5 cm tall with gently bowed sides, is shared with a passive System Audio speaker; its port is closed off inside with a foam plug.12 Sound arrives wirelessly over WiSA from the Stereo Hub HT, and the SA Cockpit app measures the room and corrects for it.1 It comes in white or black satin.2
