Why it is renowned
The online magazine 6moons reviewed the E50, which sits beside the P300 and S400 MKII in Buchardt's passive range, and noted that the company sells direct rather than through distributors and keeps its whole production in its own new premises.1 Buchardt sets it apart as a speaker built almost wholly from Danish parts: cabinet, woofer, tweeter and binding posts, with assembly and testing done in Denmark.2
The story
The cabinets are made in Buchardt's own workshop from solid oak, 19 mm thick and 28 mm at the front baffle, cut by CNC machine and assembled with finger joints by its woodworkers; the wood is FSC certified.2 Inside are a 6.5-inch extended-stroke Purifi woofer, chosen after it served in the A500SE and Anniversary 10, and a custom Scan-Speak one-inch textile dome in a waveguide, with two six-inch passive radiators made for the speaker by SB Acoustics.2
The crossover, at 2 kHz, uses Jantzen Audio foil coils and Superior Z-Caps, and the tweeter is wired with oil- and cotton-insulated copper from Duelund Coherent Audio; the binding posts come from Argento Audio.2 Each speaker measures 395 by 190 by 284 mm and weighs 8.6 kg.1
