Why it is renowned

The Trapeze Reimagined brings back the shape of the Trapez, the speaker that gave Audiovector its first success in 1979 and set out the ideas behind its later designs.12 The American magazine The Absolute Sound reviewed it, calling it an excellent musical communicator and singling out its fast, weighty bass.3 The reviewer set it apart from the house's tall, narrow R and QR towers: a waist-high, wide-baffle speaker close in look to its 1970s roots.3

The story

Ole Klifoth launched the Trapez in 1979, built around linear dynamics, linear phase and a 6 dB per octave crossover; the Trapeze Reimagined, launched 45 years later, follows the same principles.1 Mads Klifoth wanted to honour the original, while his father felt the trapezoid design still had more to give.3

It is a three-way design: a 12-inch mid/bass driver loaded by an 8-inch driver inside in an isobaric arrangement, a 5-inch midrange and an Air Motion Transformer tweeter made for this speaker.13 The angled front baffle cuts standing waves inside the high-density hardwood cabinet, and felt around the upper drivers absorbs diffraction.13 It stands on a two-layer aluminium plinth with steel ball bearings and spikes, and a three-position switch at the back matches it to the damping factor of the amplifier.13 The standard matte finishes are Nordic oak, black ash, Italian walnut and white silk.1
