Why it is renowned
Dyrberg/Kern built its business on export: in 2001 it received King Frederik IX's Award for Excellence in Export, and in 2004 it received the Entrepreneur of the Year award.1 Its own web shop serves Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as Denmark.2
The story
Gitte Dyrberg and Henning Kern met in 1985 and began with women's clothes and matching accessories; they showed their first collection in 1987, when they graduated from the Copenhagen School of Design, and from 1990 made only jewellery.1 A sterling silver line followed in 2011 and 2012.1 The collections are drawn in the design studio at the company's headquarters in Copenhagen and made in workshops in Asia, where each piece passes through some 40 steps, from casting, polishing and plating the metal to setting the stones.3
