Why it is renowned
The Prince chair won the ELLE Decoration Design Award in 2006.1 The Museum of Modern Art in New York took one into its permanent collection, a gift of HAY.2
The story
Louise Campbell created the Prince chair for a competition to design a piece of furniture for the Danish Crown Prince, held in connection with the 2003 Copenhagen furniture fair. Its perforated seat drew on the paper cuttings of Hans Christian Andersen, with the white felt standing for the paper.3 She did not win, and HAY put the chair into production.4 HAY launched it in 2002, with a seat of neoprene rubber and felt on a powder-coated steel base.3 The seat was water-cut and the frame laser-cut.2
