Why it is renowned
Bug sets out to be a sofa with a low environmental impact and a long life: Eilersen cut back on material and resources in making it, and its materials are durable and easy to separate, so it can be repaired or recycled.1 It ships flat-packed for easy transport and assembly.1 In November 2025 the American design site Design Milk covered the collection, noting its replaceable parts and easy disassembly.2 Vogue Scandinavia reported that the series gave off 40 per cent less emissions than a standard Eilersen design.3
Recognition
The story
Bug was designed for Eilersen in 2025 by Bly Studio, the Danish studio of Eva Fly and Anne Brandhøj.12 The name refers both to the soft cushions held in a firm shell and to insects as an early sign of a recovering ecosystem.2 On the sofa and chair, arches cut into the outer shell let the upholstery give, and the cushions are gathered at the corners and held by the shell itself.2
Full, rounded seats sit against the frame's clean, exaggerated lines, and the puffy sides double as head and leg rests.1 The sofa frame is 76 cm deep and 70 cm high with a 43 cm seat; the cover is fixed as standard, with a removable cover available, and the legs come in several colours and materials.1 Besides the sofa there are a lounge chair, a footstool and a table.2 Eilersen found the designers through the Danish television show The New Classic and launched Bug at Evolution, its 130th anniversary exhibition at 3DaysofDesign 2025; the sofa and chair frames are of Swedish oak veneer, and the coffee table combines oak and natural stone.3
