Why it is renowned
The D2008 is one of Scan-Speak's Classic tweeters, in service for almost five decades.1 Vance Dickason measured the revised version for Voice Coil's Test Bench in October 2023, published by audioXpress, and called the original designs highly praised.2
The story
Ejvind Skaaning, Ragnar Lian and Mogens Hvass developed a new line of drivers for Scan-Speak between 1971 and 1974, and the D2008 tweeter was its first product.3 It is a 19 mm coated cloth dome with a low-resonance dual rear chamber and a vented pole piece.2
The original D2008 with a ferrite magnet, made as the D2008/851100 and the D2008/851200 with ferrofluid, is no longer made: in 2023 Scan-Speak ended its production and replaced it with the D2008/852100, which has a neodymium motor.2 Scan-Speak describes the new version as an upgrade to modern materials and new manufacturing standards.1
