Why it is renowned

The CSA70 won a Diapason d'Or award, presented in Paris in January 2023.1 Hi-Fi News reviewed it in March 2022 and found its styling so clean that anything next to it looks almost rococo.2

The story

Hi-Fi News saw the CSA70 as a way into the Copland range, a solid-state amplifier from a house known for valves.2 Unlike the larger CSA100 and CSA150, it has no valves in its line stage: the preamplifier is solid state, while the power stage uses the same technology as its bigger siblings.3 It gives 70 watts a channel into 8 ohms and is rated for loads down to 2 ohms.3

Its DAC, a Cirrus chip rather than the ESS of the larger models, takes coaxial, two optical and USB inputs, with aptX HD Bluetooth as an option.23 Three line inputs, a moving-magnet phono stage, a pre-out and a 6.3 mm headphone socket complete it, and it comes in silver or black.32
