Why it is renowned
The Michelin green guide gave LEGO House two stars in 2019, and Time for Kids listed it among the world's 50 coolest places that year.1 The building won the Danish Design Award 2018, a Civic Trust Award in 2019 and the Architizer A+ jury and popular choice awards in 2018, and it has been reviewed in The Guardian and The Telegraph.1
The story
The Bjarke Ingels Group designed the house as 21 white blocks stacked like bricks, with eight round skylights for studs on the top gallery and coloured roof terraces open to the public.1 It holds 25 million LEGO bricks on 12,000 square metres, with four colour-coded play zones, a gallery of fan-built models and the LEGO Museum.1 Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary opened it on 28 September 2017.1 Visitors build, race their own vehicles and eat at the MINI CHEF restaurant, where the meal is ordered with bricks.2
