Why it is renowned
The Wishbone Chair, also called the Y Chair, became Wegner's greatest commercial success and has never left production.1 In the early 1950s, when Danish furniture was drawing attention abroad and above all in the United States, it made up more than half of Carl Hansen & Søn's sales.2
The story
In 1949 Carl Hansen & Søn asked Hans J. Wegner for a chair of high quality that could still be made in series.1 He drew four: the CH22, CH23, CH25 and the Wishbone Chair, CH24; all went into production the following year.1 The company still makes it at its factory on Funen.2
