Why it is renowned
The New York Times reported it in McDonald's redesign of a London restaurant, it stands in the boarding area of the renovated Terminal 2 at San Francisco International Airport, and it was the diary room chair in the first British series of Big Brother.1
The story
Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, alongside the Swan chair.12 Fritz Hansen has made it since the late 1950s.3 It has a steel frame under a fabric or leather cover, and a leather Egg takes nearly two whole cowhides; a sofa version was also made, in very small numbers.1
